DRIVEN CRAZY

I was so sick of my neighbours parking in front of my driveway I had their cars towed – I had begged them to stop

A FURIOUS woman has revealed how she towed her neighbour's cars after she begged them to stop blocking their driveway.

The woman explained her neighbours are a large family who own five to six cars between them - regularly leaving them parked across her driveway.

She repeatedly asked the family to move their cars, and when they didn't take any notice she wrote to their landlord explaining the situation.

where she said: "I went to their home and knocked on the door several times asking them to not park directly behind us, or anyone for that matter. They didn't listen.

"At one point I even got in an altercation with one of them because we were trying to leave and they wouldn't move."

The email to their landlord seemed to stop the family from blocking people's drives but instead, they parked on the access road that runs between the houses.

Eventually, the woman decided she had to take legal action after they blocked the road again whilst having a party a few weeks ago.

She explained: "Again I emailed the owner and left a note with them basically saying next time they will be towed.

"So this morning they were parked there again and I finally called the tow truck. I could hear and see them very frustrated as they had somewhere to go, but I feel like I have warned them so many times that it's justified at this point.

"I'd prefer nobody get towed ever, but they don't seem to care about being neighbourly."

This is not the first time a frustrated resident has towed a neighbour's car, we told previously a story of a man who took action after his driveway was being used without permission.

YOUR RIGHTS

What are your rights if somone is repeatedly blocking access with their vehicle?

  • You should always try and approach your neighbour in a calm manner first.
  • You can leave a note should you not be able to speak to them directly.
  • If a neighbour is parked on your driveway and this is part of your land, they are technically trespassing.
  • It is considered a criminal offence but there is no criminal law preventing someone from parking on your driveway.
  • Do not try and move the vehicle yourself because you will be responsible for any damages and have to pay for repairs
  • The courts have the jurisdiction to remove a car from the driveway for you if you choose to pursue a civil case for trespassing.
